Welcome to Interesting Times!
This is the wiki for the Auckland Requiem LARP (Live Action Role Play).
We use White Wolf's new World of Darkness, Mind’s Eye Theatre rules. Players may play Vampires, Werewolves or Mages. New players of any experience level are welcome.
At present, all the games are held at the Auckland University Architecture block

The game is played on the first Saturday of the month, at Auckland University. We meet from 6pm and the game starts at 7pm and runs until 10.30pm. Between games, players interact via forums: http://www.interestingtimes.freeforums.org
There are specialty forums for all of the various factions, as well as generic forums for all players.
The setting is Auckland, New Zealand, present day. In February 2007, the students of the University of Auckland protested fee increases. The protest turned into a riot, and much havoc was caused. During this time, nearly all the supernaturals of the three factions were killed. Those that survived were those that were out of the city at the time, and the three powerful leaders of each faction: The Vampire, Prince Grey; the Alpha Werewolf, Eric; and the Mage Leader, Lord Andreas.
In the year that has passed since the riot, newcomers have flocked to the city. Some look for opportunity to advance, other return to their home city seeking for loved ones lost during the riots, and yet other arrive to solve the mystery of what caused mortals to destroy the supernaturals. Whatever their reason for being here, all are bound by the Truce, ordered by the leaders of the three factions. Despite their inherent differences, the three factions are ordered to work together, to prevent a repeat of the destruction that took place.
Character Creation is Standard Mortal + 25XP, adding the Supernatural template and then 25XP. Characters are to be 3 years or less as a supernatural. Storyteller Approval for all characters is required. Look under House Rules for any other character creation rules.
So you want to join the game?
Firstly I suggest registering at the forum. I recommend introducing yourself in the introductions thread. We're a pretty friendly bunch, and no matter what your experience level is, you will find people happy to help you get accustomed to the game.
If you're new to the system then read the thread http://interestingtimes.freeforums.org/so-you-want-to-live-in-interesting-times-t434.html to learn a little about the various factions to decide what you want to play. There is also lots of information available on the web. If you are unsure, you can ask around the forums for advice – there are always a lot of players happy to explain to you why their faction is the best.
Once you've decided what you want to play, send an email to moc.liamg|meiuqeRKA#moc.liamg|meiuqeRKA with your idea for a character. If you know the system then feel free to make up a character sheet for approval, ensuring you follow the rules as stated above. If you don't know how to make a character then just let them know, and they'll help you with the stats. Your characters stats are not nearly as important as a good character concept and background, so don't worry if you haven't played the game before. The rules are pretty easy to pick up as you go.
Once you have a character organised, please change your profile name to the name of your character. This helps for online role playing.
If you are a new player, I highly recommend linking your character to another one in the city. This will allow you to jump right in, and make it easier for you to get involved in the game. Ask around on the forum and you'll find plenty of people happy to help.
Finally come to the game. Meet us all and have fun!
I've never larped/role played before. Can I still join?
Absolutely. A number of our players had never role played before joining the game. Others had only played tabletop (pencil and paper) games before. Others come from a background of boffer weapon larps. MET is quite easy to pick up the basics.
I've got a character that I've played in another larp before. He's an Elder Vampire with ten level 5 disciplines, and all the fighting merits, and a specialty in explosives and a huge sword, and loads of grenades and an assault rifle. Can I play him?
I've got a character that I've played in another larp before. He fits into the guidelines above. Can I play him?
Maybe. Send the concept and character sheet to the ST's and they'll let you know.
I don't know what all these acronyms mean? Please explain.
ST - Storyteller (Known in some systems as Game Master or GM)
PC - Player Character
NPC - Non Player Character (i.e. a character played by an ST usually)
IC - In Character
OOC - Out Of Character
MET - Minds Eye Theatre. The rules system
WoD - World of Darkness. The Setting (also known as nWoD for new World of Darkness)
WW - White Wolf. The creators of WoD
XP - Experience. You can spend it to make your character better.
People around me keep making funny symbols with their hands. What's that all about?
MET uses hand signals to signify certain things. The most important one for a new player to learn is the 'T' symbol. Place one hand on top of the other forming a T shape. This is the classic "Timeout" hand signal. This shows that what you are saying is OOC. Other hand signals include arms crossed over chest to signify invisibility, and hand in an L shape to show speaking another language.
Do you people really think you are vampires and werewolf and mages and stuff?
No, of course not. It's just a game. Now please excuse me while I go and sharpen my fangs…
